Anita Sarawak In Kwek Mambo Anita
The iconic entertainer reflects on her experiences in Kwek Mambo Anita. Afterwowing viewers with talk show Anita on Astro Ria for six seasons, the multi-talented Anita Sarawak is back with something livelier – Kwek Mambo Anita.
Looking fabulous, as always, with her new hairdo, Anita has a special way of endearing herself to others. In Kwek Mambo Anita, the 56-year-old performer cajoled her guests in a very sweet way, and the next thing you knew they were all singing together.
“I’m glad to say that Anita has set the trend for similar shows. We have moved on to other shows and that’s how Kwek Mambo Anita came about.
“It is entertainment but it is also about inspiration and aspiration, and encourages people to achieve their goals in life.
“We have guests from all walks of life such as a manager of a football team, a race car driver and veteran actresses,” she explains.
“In the show, we try to understand how these personalities achieved success as well as their struggles along the way.
“What I can promise is that Kwek Mambo Anita is not a frivolous and gossipy show. In fact, it is suitable for all ages.
“Even though the essence of Kwek Mambo Anita is about entertainment, its positive messages will, hopefully, get across to the audience.
“There were episodes with celebrities such as guitarist-musician Man Kidal, rock singer Ella, actress-singer Erra Fazira, actress-TV host Ogy Datuk Ahmad Daud and AF5 first runner-up Ebi Kornelis, but the issues we discussed were not solely entertainment. They talked about their journey to fame.”
Anita said that she did not rely on a full script but gave spontaneous responses when interacting with her guests.
Anita did not need any help from the floor manager to warm up her guests during the recording of the show.
She made the audience feel at ease before the recording started and was there for them during the commercial breaks.
“I got my guests to sing along and even the legendary actress, Datuk Maria Menado, sang along with me.
“It was a touching moment when my guests Maria and Mariani told me how they took care of me when I was just a baby. I was a bit embarrassed but extremely touched by their accounts. The two legendary actresses knew my late mother well,” said Anita, elaborating on one of the episodes.
Anita added that for the show, her glamorous outfits are her own. Some are from her boutique in Las Vegas, and some by top local designers such as Ashley of Kapas, Calvin Thoo and Khoon Hooi. She even complemented the clothes with her intricately designed jewellery from her own jewellery line, Anita Sarawak Cinta Collection.
If Anita was inspired by Oprah Winfrey, Kwek Mambo Anita is a reflection of her experiences.
“The idea for the show came from Khai (Khairil Anwar Salleh, Astro Prima channel manager), my husband Mahathir, and myself. And the words Kwek Mambo were inspired by the late Tan Sri P. Ramlee’s song of the same title.
“When you mention ‘kwek mambo’, they immediately conjure up images of something relaxing and entertaining; and without trying too hard, the show is also about trying to inspire and aspire.”
“All of us have stories of successes and failures in life. But in Kwek Mambo Anita, we only focus on the positive elements and try to inspire others.”
Kwek Mambo Anita airs on Astro Prima (Astro channel 
on Sundays at 9pm with repeats on Mondays at 3am and Saturdays at 1pm.
