Malaysian Icon (Jaclyn Victor & OAG) Ready For Ikon Asean
PETALING JAYA: Pressure seems to be mounting for the Ikon winners Malaysian Idol Jaclyn Victor and band sensation OAG who will be representing the nation in the upcoming Ikon Asean at Putrajaya International Convention Centre in Putrajaya this Sunday.
Jaclyn will be up against Judika (Indonesia) and Vina Morales (the Philippines) while OAG will face Tahta (Indonesia) and Kjwan (the Philippines). The winners for each category will receive US$25,000 (RM85,500) and a trophy.
“It has been stressful as I will be competing against two equally talented singers. There is also a lot of pressure as I will be representing Malaysia in this prestigious event,” Jac, as she is known, said yesterday.
Although uncertain about winning the competition, Jac said she has been training hard to ensure she will perform well. The singer, who will be sporting outfits by Tom Abang Saufi and Carven Ong, will be belting out a medley of P. Ramlee songs and her signature song, Gemilang.
In 2005, Jac won the Golden Prize at the 8th Shanghai Asia Music Awards in China.
OAG frontman Radhi is hoping Jac or his band would win in one category at the competition. He is expecting a tough fight from the bands but plans to strive hard to ensure victory. The band will be singing Nawaitu, Dayang and Beautifool.
“The other bands are equally talented so it is vital for us to give our best. We have to focus on our vocals to win the hearts of the judges,” said Radhi.
The winners will be picked by a panel comprising local musician Mac Chew, Indonesian singer Hetty Koes Endang, Filipino singer Eugene R. Villaluz and Singaporean composer Iskandar Mirza Ismail.
The three-hour event, to hosted by Sarimah Ibrahim and Dominic Lau, will be aired live at 9pm on Ria (Astro channel 4).
