Tunku The Musical
In conjunction with Malaysia’s 50 years of independence, Tunku the Musical will be staged at Pentas 1 of the Kuala Lumpur Performing Arts Centre in Sentul, KL, from Saturday.
The patriotic musical spans 50 years and is divided into a prologue (Aug 31, 1957), Act One (the Singapore-Malaya separation), Act Two (the 1969 riots) and an Epilogue (present-day Malaysia). Leading the cast are Tony Eusoff, Douglas Lim, Syuk Ibrahim, Evelyn Toh, Maria Yasmin and Doreen Tang.
Created and directed by Joe Hasham and written by Lim Chuang Yik and Teng Ky-Gan (Broken Bridges), the musical has all the colour, drama, excitement, anticipation, heartache, sorrow and uncertainty of that fateful Saturday morning on Aug 31, 1957. Mervyn Peters is musical director while Joseph Gonzales acts as choreographer.
