Dr Sheikh Muszaphar Malaysian First Astronaut
Baikonur (Kazakhstan) 9 Oct - Dr Sheikh Muszaphar Shukor, 35, was selected from the russian aerospace agency astronaut selection committee (Roscosmos) to be Malaysian first astronaut.
Sheikh Muszaphar Shukor will be launched to orbit tomorrow (10 Oct 2007). The Orthopedic Surgeon doctor from UKM (Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia) who is a Serembanian will be in International Space Station (ISS) for 10 days.
His other crews would be Commander Peggy Whitson from United States and the flight engineer Yuri Malenchenko will be launched from Baikonur Cosmodrom at 7:21pm (9:21pm Malaysia).
Malaysian Science, Technology and Innovation Minister, Datuk Dr Jamaluddin Jarjis says, the selection of Dr Sheikh Muszaphar was based on Malaysian previous selection.
Other than that, the committee also take in account all the reports from each components of training both of the astronauts.
Dr Faiz Khaleed is said to be send for the second session of astronaut on 2008/09 session. He also will be allowed to train in Yuri Gagarin Astronaut Training Center in Star City, Moscow, Russia.
Russia is currently celebrating its 50 years anniversary of sending world first man made sattellite sputnik.
Dr Sheikh Muszaphar Shukor is currently in orbit inside Soyuz on his way to ISS (International Space Station).
After consulting with an Imam (Imaam : muslim cleric), Dr Sheikh Muszaphar has learned how to do his duty as a moslem while in space.
For solah (prayers), he will get ablution through tayammum style (using the dust in air particle) and solat towards Kaabah during his Takbiratul Ihram.
He also will do his fast for 45 minutes only because the space ship he’s on circle the earth 16 times a day. He will get 45 minutes of sunlight and 45 minutes of darkness throughout his journey.

Sheikh Muszaphar worked numerous times for tv commercials. As an an orthopedic surgeon at HUKM. He’s tall and soft-spoken (”missing the dark features :)” ). A doctor and a part-time model! Every girl’s dream.

Dr sheikh muszaphar shukor bukannyer ke bulan.. die pergi naik roket soyuz ke ISS (International Space Station) je. kalau kita berusaha, maybe ada possibility pergi jadi orang Malaysia pertama jejakkan kaki ke bulan.
Alhamdulillah…misi angkawasan kita yang pertama telah berjaya dan mendarat dengan jayanya ke bumi…Malaysia boleh!

Tahniah coz terpilih mnjdi angkasawan malaysia yg pertama..and berjaya menjalankan misi yg telah di amanahkan kpd dr untuk dilakukan di space itu…saya amat bangga dgn dr..saya berharap apabila dr pulang ke malaysia selepas di kuarintinkan beberapa hari di rusia,dr dpt berkongsi pengalaman dr selama 10 hari di space itu bersama kami semua rakyat malaysia…dan saya juga berharap,satu hari nanti saya akan berpeluang berjumpa dgn dr dan bertanya untuk mengetahui lebih lanjut mengenai science di angkasa……dan saya selalu ingat ayat yg dr pernah ckp…’IF YOU CAN DREAM IT,YOU CAN DO IT….wassalam…

updates:- KUALA LUMPUR: Sheikh Mustafa Shukor Al Masrie, 32, the brother of Angkasawan Dr Sheikh Muszaphar Shukor, died at 6pm yesterday at Universiti Malaya Medical Centre here without regaining consciousness since going into a coma last Sunday after falling and hitting his head in a restaurant in Taman Desa.
