Who Wants to Be a Star?!

Author: teropong | November 6, 2007 - 12:07 pm

Only a month after the launch of the Sutasi campaign – the search to find the hottest, unsigned contemporary talent in Asia – in South-East Asia, Asia Sounds recently announced that the live audition road show will be held in Kuala Lumpur on Nov 12 following the audition in Bangkok. The other places will be Malaysia, Indonesia, the Philippines and Vietnam.

Open auditions will be held for two days in each country with solo artistes auditioning on the first day and bands on the second. Semi-finalists will be asked to return on the third day. The dates of the open auditions are as follow:

Bangkok, Thailand (Nov 8-10), Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia (Nov 12-14), Jakarta, Indonesia (Nov 16-18), Manila, Philippines (Nov 20-22) and Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam (Nov 24-26).

Auditions in Malaysia will be held at Bilik Trengganu, Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC) on Nov 12 at 10am for solo artistes and Nov 13 for bands with the first 100 applicants guaranteed to be auditioned.

The final night of auditions on Nov 14 will be held at Laundry Bar at the Curve in Damansara Perdana, Petaling Jaya, Selangor, at 7pm and will feature the top 10 finalists from the first two days.

Judges will select from the semi-finalists in each South-East Asian country and screen submitted applications, with the 12 finalists competing in the regional competition to be held in February 2008.

The winners of South-East Asia will then compete against finalists from South and East Asia in the grand final gala in October 2008.

“We are enthusiastic about the reception we have received since the launch of Sutasi last month,” said Asia Sounds President and founder Colleen Zulian.

“But we are also realistic of the fact that there are talented people out there who do not have access to recording equipment or the Internet, which makes it very challenging for them to submit samples of their work to us.

“Live auditions are our way of saying ‘Everyone is important to us, not just those with technical capabilities’.”
