Author: teropong | May 14, 2008 - 1:49 am

ada choiAda Choi was recently diagnosed with a systemic disease called “ankylosing spondylitis” which is a type of painful inflammatory arthritis that affects the spine.

This type of disease in worst cases can make someone severely disabled.

When Ada first received the news she cried for two days.

Thankfully her friends encouraged her and researched more information about it. Afterwards she felt alot better.

Earlier she went to see the doctor for an checkup because she had chronic pain in the lower part of her spine and asthma for 4 months.

She was then diagnosed with this disease. Due to alot of support Ada had started to encourage herself to be stronger and did research on the internet.

She hopes that she can recover from this one day from different treatments.

Ada found out that Jay Chow also has “ankylosing spondylitis” and is exempt from performing military service.

After hearing that Jay Chow often plays basketball and cart racing, Ada’s anxiety had decreased. Ada states that after going to the hospital for another checkup she found out that things are currently not as bad as she thought.

The doctor revealed that the disease is only in the early stages and that she can still have chidren and do poses for photoshoots.

Yesterday night Ada attended the worshipping for the (Universe Films) new movie “同 門” in Maple Street. Other stars include Shawn Yue, Elanne Kong, Chapman To, Ella Koon and Paul Wong.

Ada who has not casted in a movie for several years will play an triad leader. Ada expressed that she had discussed an agreement with her husband Max Zhang of her limits in acting.

she does not mind playing roles with plenty of sex appeal. Unfortunately there are no scenes in this new movie that she will give sex appeal or kissing scenes involved.

Ada says that she needs to earn alot of money before making plans for having children.

Note: Only a few people become severely disabled from this disease.

  1. Kevin Says:

I don’t even know where to begin. I appreciate that you are attempting to report on a specific celebrity’s experiences and fears with the disease, but your information, and statement of AS as a “systemic disease”, is at best only scratching the surface, and at worst, completely damaging to the morale of those of us that suffer from AS to the degree that we ARE disabled.

AS is a disease that can present itself in some cases as a minor stiffness in the morning, with perhaps a slight bend forward in the neck near the later end of it’s run. However, most AS patients suffer far more than this, and to say “only a few people become severely disabled” is not only inaccuracy of the highest degree, but irresponsible as well.

20% of AS patients present as children as young as 8 years old. This 20%, by the way, is also at the highest risk of developing into the “only a few” you so casually write off. It is of UTMOST importance that we start taking this disease seriously, and urge parents to start looking for the signs of Juvenile Ankylosing Spondylitis; lulling people into a false sense of security with shoddy reporting contributes to the many many cases that could have been detected early, and changed the outcomes for THOUSANDS of those “just a few”.

I’m appalled, outraged, and insulted by your lack of professional standards. Do some research.
