Katrina Kaif Saved Akshay Kumar in Welcome
FROM scaling skyscrapers to jumping into the deep sea, actor Akshay Kumar has had his fair share of rescuing his heroines.
But in his latest movie Welcome, it is the reverse for the action hero – he is saved by his leading lady Katrina Kaif.
In the scene from the Anees Bazmee - directed film about a trio of mobsters who try to find a respectable husband for their sister.
Akshay Kumar rushes into a burning building to rescue Katrina Kaif but he faints upon entering it.
His love interest instead lifts him out to safety.
The 40-year-old jokes: “What man in his right mind wouldn’t want to be carried off and rescued by a beautiful woman? My mum carried me for nine months so why can’t Katrina carry me?”
The jovial and wacky fella is asked if the act was his idea.
He laughs: “No, it was Anees’. In fact, he was sceptical when he made the suggestion. He thought I might not favour the idea of being rescued by my leading lady. But I told him it was a wonderful concept. So we went ahead with it.”
His beautiful co-star admits that she had other weightier concerns before filming the scene. “When they told me about the scene I was apprehensive about carrying all that weight as Akshay is quite large-built. It would be like lifting a tonne of bricks and I said no way was I going to carry a tonne of bricks on my shoulders,” smiles Katrina.
Fortunately, the 23-year-old actress did not have to lug him all by herself as they had the aid of cables to lighten the load. “I had to put out the fire, though,” she beams.
Producer Firoz Nadiadwala reveals that Akshay burnt his right hand in that particular scene, which took place on the final day of shooting.
“Akshay didn’t tell us until after the shooting. Prior to that we had voiced our concerns about his safety but he insisted on going ahead with it.”
