Showbiz princess and hot young actress KC Concepcion is now a recording artist as well–not surprising since her mom, Sharon “The Megastar” Cuneta is a singer whose hits have become Filipino pop classics.

Fans will recall that Sharon started out in showbusiness as a singer, with her song “Mr. DJ” becoming a huge hit when she was only 15 years old.

Now it’s KC’s turn at the mic. In an exclusive interview with abs-cbnNEWS.com KC Concepcion said that singing comes naturally for her and is definitely one of her passions.

“And if anything siguro parang it’s something na gusto ko every year ay may album ako. Kasi gusto ko ‘yun ‘yung mag-reflect ng kung ano yung pinagdadaanan ko at that time na na-release siya,” she said.

(And if anything maybe it’s like I would want to have an album every year, Because I want it to reflect what I am going through at that time it’s being released, she said.)

KC added that singing for her is more personal. She said that it requires a more personal investment of self on her part, and she is able to express herself more freely through it–unlike acting where she has to play a character.

“Parang it’s more personal siya kaysa sa acting na istorya ng ibang tao, ibang tao ang ginagampanan mo. Minsan wala kang kinalaman sa nangyayari doon sa pelikula. Role lang ‘yung inaatupag mo doon–kapag album mayroon kang mas malaking say,” she said. (It’s like its more personal that acting which is the story of another person, you portray the role of a different person. Sometimes you don’t have anything to do with the person you are in- in the movie. You’re just doing a role– when its an album you have more say to it, she said)

However, the “naturalness” of singing for KC Concepcion also means that she’s not making it her priority, career-wise. She said that right now, she wants to earn the respect of audiences for her as an actress.

“Yung pagiging singer ko it’s always a part of me ‘yan, ‘yan siguro ‘yung pinakawalang pretention walang acting involved. Kasi part na ng sarili mo yung mga favorite songs mo, part na ng buhay mo,” she said. (My being a singer is always a part of me, that’s probably the most without pretentions cause there is no acting involved.

Cause its a part of you, singing your favorite songs, part of your life.)

Last May 19, Monday, abs-cbnNEWS.com broke the story about KC Concepcion’s debut album entitled “a.k.a. Cassandra” hours before she reached the municipality of Balindong in Lanao del Sur, to help the United Nations World Food Program (WFP) in its rice distribution efforts, along with WFP’s global partner TNT.

KC Concepcion is an ambassador for the UNWFP and has been very active in her duties to promote its efforts to end hunger among vulnerable peoples, particularly those in the Philippines.

On Tuesday, June 3, Concepcion launched her album at Ruby Ballroom of the Crowne Plaza Galleria Manila.

Her album features eleven tracks including “Imposible”, “Agila”, “Imagine” by John Lennon, “Must Have Been Love” by Roxette, and “Ngiti Lang” by Ryan Cayabyab.

The album is produced and released by Sony BMG.

KC Concepcion or Maria Kristina Cassandra Cuneta Pangilinan in real life is the daughter of showbiz Megastar Sharon Cuneta and actor Gabby Concepcion. She is legally adopted by Senator Francis Pangilinan but uses her biological dad’s last name as screen name.

Last April, KC Concepcion inked a three-movie contract with the Kapamilya Network’s movie outfit Star Cinema. For her debut film she will be paired with young actor and GMA-7 star Richard Gutierrez.

She is also set to do a movie with Gutierrez under GMA Films this coming September.
