Radio Station 988 Charity Drive
Radio station 988’s deejays are serious about their drive to raise funds for charity.
How would you like to hitch a ride from your favourite deejay or have him or her chauffer you around town? Ten of Chinese radio station 988’s deejays will be ferrying passengers around town until the end of next month.
As part of their “988 Taxi Ride” campaign which was launched last Monday, the deejays will be cruising the roads of Johor Baru, Kuala Lumpur and Penang.
Before hitting the road, the deejays were required to undergo safety training. Through this campaign, the station will allow taxi drivers, passengers and listeners to share their experiences and air grievances live on national radio for the first time. (If you happen to be one of the lucky passengers being ferried by a 988 radio deejay, you might even be heard live on the radio show.
The station will also have a hotline for listeners to call in directions in case the deejay chauffeurs get lost.
Listeners can choose any of the 10 deejays to be their taxi driver: May, Mike, Jeff, Sam, Nic, Luke, Jia, Ken, KK, and Morna. All they have to do is key in “988TAXI DJ’s name” and send the message to 32733.
At the campaign launch, the deejays were in a light-hearted mood.
Deejay KK was introduced as “Taxi Keong”, the taxi driver who wears Prada.
Deejay May joked, “Listeners must be brave enough to hail my taxi. I drive at 40-60 km/h.”
And Deejay Mike quipped, “If you (listeners) choose me, I’ll drive faster than May and I will entertain you with stories while I drive.”
The station will be donating all profits from the campaign to “World Vision 30-Hour Famine”, an annual event organised by World Vision Malaysia (WVM) to raise funds to help the less fortunate.
The deejays are hoping to get at least 1,000 SMS because if they do, the main sponsor Ogawa, will donate RM10,000 to WVM.
The “988 Taxi Ride” campaign is organised by 988, presented by Ogawa, partnered by Sunlight Taxi, and supported by the Kuala Lumpur Taxi Association. Tune into 988 or log on to 988.com.my for details.
