Anugerah Skrin 2007 pays tribute to those who produced outstanding works for the small and big screens.

For the past years, TV3 has been giving recognition to artistes involved in the TV and film industries through its Anugerah Skrin 2007.

This year is no different. Sixteen telemovies, seven drama series, five comedy series and 21 theatre releases have been identified as works with the highest ratings and that places them on the Anugerah Skrin 2007 list.

Datuk Farid Ridzuan, the chief executive officer of Sistem Televisyen Malaysia, said that the quality of films, telemovies and TV series has improved, and there are so many talents.

He said: “A lot more production houses have been coming up with high-quality shows for television.

The Anugerah Skrin ensures the innovative and creative people are rightfully awarded. And hopefully, this will inspire them to come up with even higher quality productions that will get a wider audience in the future.”

This, according to Farid, would ultimately allow the company to push the local content internationally. Of late too, TV3 has been working together with other stations, such as MediaCorp, to produce Chinese and English series.

The early nominees are based on the ratings (for television) and the earnings (for films). The nominees include series aired under the Media Prima channels, RTM and Astro.

“We received numerous nominations this year and many works are made by the younger generation, which proves that there is a pool of creative talent.”

While the drama genre is a popular choice for many of the TV production houses, Farid noted that comedy was an exclusive field. Production house Ace Motion dominates the Comedy for a TV series category with three (out of five) nominations.

As is the station’s tradition, viewers can watch the nominated telemovies from tomorrow till Dec 8. The titles include Sedut Duit, Hujan Sudah Teduh, Nek Kiah, Khianat, Engkau Laksana Bulan, Sebuah Ijtihad, Selimut Putih, Ilham Suci, Sirah, Rendang Untuk Mertua, DNA Jasmin, Tanah Kubur, Takbir Suci, Cinta Tahun Baru, Madu oh Madu and Fitrah Di Ufuk Ramadhan.

In the Drama Series category, the nominees are Kerana Dosa Kelmarin, Janji Diana, Susuk, Seputih Qaseh Ramadan, Emil Emilda, Realiti and Cinta Medik.

Comedy Series: Pak Tam Masuk Kondo, Keluarga Adam, Puteri SS8, Fara and Bong.

Films: Remp-It, Gong, Bilut, Diva Popular, Nana Tanjung, Salah Bapak, Red Kebaya, Cicak Man, Misi 1511, Tentang Bulan, Syaitan, Qabil Kushi Qabil Igam, Puaka Tebing Biru, Mukhsin, Chermin, Jangan Pandang Belakang, Zombi Kampung Pisang, Sumolah, Waris Jari Hantu and Diva.

There are other categories, the winners of which will be announced on the night of the awards, scheduled for December. The station plans to take the winners to Los Angeles and Las Vegas.
